The Coastguard Association Mental Health Support Team is available to currently serving or former volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers or full-time staff who want to chat informally to a trained Mental Health First Aider with shared operational experiences.
Being part of the Coastguard Rescue Service can be challenging, and volunteers and full-time staff can be exposed to difficult and sometimes traumatic incidents or situations.
The Maritime & Coastguard Agency has a range of wellbeing and welfare options available, however it is recognised some people may prefer to speak to someone out with the service, but who has a shared understanding of the unique nature of being part of the Coastguard.
That is why all members of the Coastguard Association Mental Health Support Team are either currently serving, or recently retired from the Coastguard as a volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officer or full-time operational role.
The one-to-one supportive conversations can be arranged by completing the self-referral form below, which will then be allocated to one of our Mental Health Support Team volunteers to arrange a suitable date and time. Conversations are held virtually via MS Teams however if a phone call would be preferred, this can also be requested.
Please be aware this is a voluntary service whereby supportive conversations can be arranged in slow time. This is not an on-call service and is not for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis.
If you require immediate help with your mental health please dial 111 for the NHS or if an emergency, always dial 999.
